What is the Course About?

Duration - 2 Years

Classroom based for 18 hours a week with a work-based learning component.

The course is equivalent to three A Levels, based on applied subjects relevant to health and social care. Work related learning is an integral part of the course. There are additional awards embedded in the programme including Basic Food Hygiene and First Aid.

By the end of the course you will understand about a range of factors affecting health and well-being. These include physical, social and environmental health influences. You will also understand the ways that services have been developed to maintain or improve health and welfare.

What are the entry Requirements?

Entry usually requires a minimum of 4 GCSEs at C grade or above including Maths and English.

A BTEC First Diploma in Health & Social Care may also be an acceptable entry route, usually at Merit level as a minimum requirement.

What Subjects will I study?

There are eighteen units in the BTEC National Diploma, half taken in the first year and half in the second. During the first year, units studied include:

Developing Effective Communication.
Development Through the Life Stages.
Fundamentals of Anatomy and Physiology.
Personal and Professional Development in Health and Social Care.

Further study includes units:
Supporting and Protecting Adults.
Caring for Older People.
Environmental Health.
