GCE A2 Evening

What is the Course About?

We currently offer A2 in Psychology, Maths and English Language & Literature.

Psychology A2 is divided into two units.

Unit three is the options unit and two out of four options are taught. Currently the two options being taught are forensic and health/clinical psychology. Forensic psychology focuses on such areas as why people turn to crime and how juries reach a verdict as well as others. Health/clinical looks at what is means to be psychological healthy and what happens, from a psychological point of view, what it means when people become unwell. Following on from this we go on to look at some of the most common occurring mental illnesses such as depression.

Unit 4 is a synoptic unit and brings together the A level together while making sure that students know and can write about the major issues and debates within psychology such as reductionism and determinism.

Mathematics A2 level requires successful completion of AS level Mathematics at grade D or better.

If you are completing this in 1 year, you need to have prior experience of studying some of the AS/A level modules. Entry onto this 1 year course depends on your previous mathematical experience, which will be assessed at interview.

Students must have an interest in mathematics and the ability to persevere with problems.

English Language & Literature A2 is split equally between literature and language. Your literature tuition will encompass Shakespeare, poetry and prose while the language modules will allow you to study spoken English and analyse written texts such as advertisements.
